Hyundai Inster EV: Nowadays there is a lot of demand for small electric vehicles in the Indian market. In view of this, Hyundai has recently unveiled a new electric car. The company has introduced its new EV Hyundai Inster which is based on the company’s own Hyundai Casper. At the same time, this car will be able to give a direct competition to the Tata Punch EV, which is currently considered the most popular and safe electric car in the Indian market. The design of the Hyundai Inster EV is quite futuristic. However, its side view is very similar to Casper.

Inster currently has two battery and motor configurations. Entry-level cars get a 96hp front-mounted drive unit that accelerates from 0-100kph in 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 140kph. It gets a 42kWh battery pack, which is claimed to give a range of around 300km on a single charge.

The high-spec ‘long-range’ Inster gets a boost of 113hp and 49kWh, taking its range to around 350km and its top speed to 150kph, while its 0-100kph time is reduced to 10.6 seconds. Both versions use nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) chemistry and all Insters get a heat pump and 85kW (DC) charging capabilities as standard.

Now if we look at the features of this electric car, Hyundai has given LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic turn signals in its front-end. At the same time, the top-end variant of this car gets 17-inch wheels which were not seen in any small car before. Not only this, the Hyundai Inster EV has a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. Along with this, it also has modern features like wireless charging and one-touch sunroof, 64 color LED ambient light.

The Inster also has Hyundai’s full set of driver assistance technology, including a 360-degree parking camera and adaptive cruise control. Apart from this, it also has a blindspot monitoring system that projects a camera image of your rear quarter view on the instrument panel as you point.

For India, Hyundai is currently focusing on introducing the Creta EV which will be the brand’s first mass-market EV for our market. With its 3.8 meter length, a versatile cabin, great looks, a good feature list and technology, the Inster is a good proposition for India, as a potential rival to the Citroen eC3 and Tata Punch EV. However, it remains to be seen if this EV comes to India in the future.
