Kanchanjunga Express accident A freight train hit the Kanchanjunga Express (13174) from behind at around 9 am on Monday in Darjeeling, West Bengal. 3 coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express were badly damaged in the accident. So far, the bodies of 15 people, including two loco pilots and a guard, have been recovered, while 60 are injured.
A freight train has hit the Kanchanjunga Express train in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Five passengers have died in the accident and about 25 people are reported to be injured. Relief and rescue operations are underway at the spot. Disaster teams have also reached the spot. The accident took place between Rangapani and Nijbari stations, a little ahead of New Jalpaiguri station.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said – The accident in the North-East Frontier (NFR) zone is sad. Rescue operations are going on at war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working together. The injured are being taken to the hospital, senior officials have reached the spot.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said – Very sad to hear the news of the train accident in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and rescue teams have reached the spot for relief rescue work and to take people to the hospital.
Prime Minister Modi expressed Reacts
The Kanchanjunga Express train accident in West Bengal is sad. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones. PM Modi prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
