T20 World Cup 2024: After a dramatic finale to the Super Eight stage, which saw Afghanistan knock out Australia with a thrilling win against Bangladesh in St Vincent, the four semi-finalists of the T20 World Cup 2024 have been confirmed: Group 2 toppers South Africa will take on Afghanistan in the first semi-final, while Group 1 toppers India will take on England in the second semi-final.

As per the ICC tournament format, the winner of the respective Super Eight groups will take on the runners-up of the other group in the semi-finals. So, the semifinal line-up is as follows…
Semifinal 1: Afghanistan vs South Africa, June 27, 6:00 AM Brian Lara Cricket Academy, San Fernando
Semifinal 2: India vs England, June 27, 8:00 PM Providence Stadium, Guyana
This will be the seventh time India will play against England in a T20 World Cup 2024 match, and they lead the head-to-head rivalry 4-2. However, India lost the previous semifinal against Jos Buttler’s side in the 2022 edition of the ICC event. Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost both their T20 World Cup encounters against the Proteas – 2010 and 2016 – which are also their only two T20I encounters.

India has had a stellar season in the Super 8s and won their three matches to seal their place in the semifinals. The Indian team has reached the semi-finals by topping Group A.
South Africa is at the top in Group B.
The South African team has topped Group B. South Africa managed to win its three matches in the Super 8 and finished on top with 6 points, while England played 3 matches in the Super 8, out of which it won 2 and lost one match. South Africa defeated England by 7 runs in the Super 8.
