Bathe in a holy river before sunrise or bathe at home by adding Ganga water to your bathwater. After bathing, offer prayers to the Sun God and take a vow to fast. Worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi according to the rituals in the morning and evening. Listen to the fasting story and perform aarti. Observe the fast throughout the day. You can eat fruits during this fast. Worship the Moon at night and offer arghya. Then, leave kheer (rice pudding) in the moonlight overnight and break your fast by consuming this kheer in the morning.

  • The worship of Goddess Lakshmi and the Moon is considered especially significant on Sharad Purnima.
  • Before worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on this day, her picture or idol is bathed in Ganga water. After this, her idol is placed on a red cloth.
  • After this, the Goddess is worshipped with incense and lamps, and flowers are offered to her.
  • Worship of Goddess Vishnu is also essential on this day.
  • Offer food to the Lord and perform aarti.
  • If you have observed a fast on this day, break your fast only after offering arghya to the Moon.
  • Bathing in holy rivers on this day is also considered auspicious.
  • Keep the kheer in the moonlight at night.
