The reason behind this is that Netflix wants to increase its user base by giving the audience free access to the content library on its platform. When can it be launched?
According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix is developing its own advertising technology platform, which can be launched by the end of 2025. The company recently informed that users are joining its ad-supported tier and the number of global active users of Netflix has increased to 40 million. A year ago this number was only 5 million.
All content will not be available
However, the report also states that Netflix is just talking about this right now. The company previously tested a free service in Kenya, in which limited content was selected, although it was later discontinued. The company can adopt a similar model in the free tier, which offers a restricted library.
Netflix has not yet made any official announcement about the free subscription ad-supported plan. It is believed that a large number of Indian users will join it.
Netflix made many changes
The company is making these changes at a time when Net-flix is rapidly moving ahead in the competitive landscape. In recent years, it has given tough competition to platforms like Disney +, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max. On the other hand, Net-flix is already offering plans at the lowest prices in India. The price of its basic mobile plan in India starts at Rs 149 and the premium monthly plan goes up to Rs 649.
- In the Rs 149 plan, content can be viewed on mobile phones and tablets with 480p resolution quality. It has support for one screen.
- In the Rs 199 plan, content can be viewed on mobile phones, TVs, computers and tablets with 720p resolution quality. It supports one screen.
- The Rs 499 plan allows you to watch content on mobile phones, TVs, computers and tablets with 1080p resolution quality. It supports two screens.
- The Rs 649 plan allows you to watch content on mobile phones, TVs, computers and tablets with 4K (Ultra HD) + HDR resolution quality. It supports four screens.
How will the company benefit if Netflix is made free?
A free service helps the company reach more people who either cannot afford the service or do not have a good way to pay.
